Sainudeen
Solitary rectal ulcer is a condition that occurs when open sores (ulcers) develop in the rectum. The rectum is a muscular tube connected to the end of your colon through which stool is passed.
Sainudeen was a victim of this disease since he was 9 months old. He was brought to Aster around 1 year of age with severe rectal bleeding. He was diagnosed to have a solitary rectal ulcer. A colon pull through operation took place and the ulcer was removed. He recovered then, but the child developed rectal bleeding for a second time. This time he was two years old.
He was found to have a rectal prolapse now. A colostomy, procedure to attach his colon (lower food pipe) to the skin of his abdomen was done. This would help Sainudeen pass stools into a plastic bag attached to the colostomy site without bleeding. This would help the ulcer heal in the interim.
Sainudeen’s bleeding improved. His treatment took over 10 hospital admissions and drained over 3/4th’s of his parents earnings. Many a times he was admitted with severe bleeding and required blood transfusions to compensate for lost blood. The family of four gets their income from selling scrap.

Aster Sick Kids Foundation supported all of Sainudeen’s treatment costs at Aster Medcity in part. Sainudeen is soon recovering.
